Domain Names Showdown

How many times have you read a domain name like www.makebetterrace.com and instead of understanding Make Bet Terrace, you read it like Make Better Race?

That happens to me more than heading out and not being sure whether I actually put deodorant on. But I don’t know why companies and musicians alike still make that mistake. I’m not saying you should put hyphens in there, God no! I mean there are too many websites out there that have domain names like www.big-company.com, which is just too annoying to spell, because you always have to tell people that there is a hyphen in between the words. Also it is totally uneconomical if you have a brand that consists of more than 2 words, like www.my-super-hot-band.com. That’s aweful!

I certainly hope you agree. Which brings me to my idea, which isn’t spectacular or anything at all, just basic common sense. Why not use camelcase? I could look like this www.MySuperHotBand.com. It’s easy to read, it’s easy to spell, and it doesn’t make use of unnecessary symbols. I use that all the time, the domain name stays the same, it’s just “designed” differently.

I would even go so far as to say that you should write your domain name the exact same way your logo looks like. For example if your company or brand has a logo which incorporates the look of something like MYbrand or myBRAND, which makes a little more sense I guess. Now in my opinion you should write your website url the same way, which would look like this: www.MYbrand.com, www.myBRAND.com respectively.

Now, I hope you will incorporate that with your own band name, and please tell me how you solve the problem of unreadable domain names.
